Prayer and the Presence of God [Friday, #285]

Have you woken up recently with some heavy things on your mind? That was the case for me. I wasn’t sure what was pressing in on me. I sat down for my time with God and felt the need to rest in his presence quietly.

So I did.

God loves us and enjoys our presence. There’s one thing he values most with us, and we should value it with him. That one thing is time.

Psalm 46:10 (NIV) is a great reminder: “Be still and know that I am God.”

When was the last time you approached God without an agenda? Your prayer time wasn’t structured around a list. You didn’t stick to a rigid schedule. You weren’t thinking about outcomes.

Let's center on that in today's audio devotional.

KEY PASSAGE:

Psalm 46-4-11

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
God will help her when morning dawns.
The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

Come, behold the works of the Lord,
how he has brought desolations on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the chariots with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
